Senior Technical Project Manager

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for the successful delivery of all aspects of a Cúram implementation project.  The SPM may be assigned to shape and deliver individual large, complex or risky projects, or a series of smaller projects. The role requires involvement across the full project lifecycle including pre-sales, sales and delivery.

The SPM is a key member of the management team on a Cúram implementation project, co-ordinating the activities of the Architects, Technical Project Managers, Business Consultants, Technical Consultants as well as key project stakeholders, executives and leaders from the customer, Cúram Software, and where applicable, a Systems Integration partner.
 
The role reports to VP Global Services for the territory. Work will typically be client based, therefore there is a need to be willing to travel within the territory, and potentially globally when the need arises. 
 
Key disciplines include definition of the project approach, project planning, tracking, resourcing and budgeting, contract management, project reporting, working within deadlines, issue and risk management, financial management of the project, team and stakeholder management and general day-to-day management of the project activities.
 
This position is “hands-on” and requires a very high level of executive and management client interaction.
 
The role provides:
 
  • Management responsibility and ownership of all components of the project lifecycle, and their delivery to agreed scope, function, budget and time;
  • Leadership and management of the project team;
  • Influencing and support of delivery partners and clients;
  • Responsibility for implementation of Cúram best-practice on the project.
An SPM will have demonstrated experience and capability in project leadership, planning, management and delivery of business solutions in the context of modern software development, ideally with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software implementations. They will have a deep, practical knowledge of the entire Change and Systems Development Lifecycles, gained through experience on business change, software development and implementation projects. It will be helpful to have practical experience of running multi-disciplinary, multi-geography teams spread throughout the globe.
 
They will possess excellent communication, problem resolution and inter-personal skills as well as a proven track record in customer focus and relationship management based on trust and delivery to plan. The SPM will be able to relate to the diversity of project business stakeholders and delivery team members, eg from the Executive level to the junior user level. They will have a strong delivery focus and a proven ability lead practically and effectively within a large project team to make the customer successful in their implementation of Cúram.
 
In addition to being seasoned project managers, the SPM should have sound, broad knowledge of modern, large-scale, web-based software architectures. They will be able to naturally understand the work of business and technical teams and communicate the issues, progress and outputs of the team in a clear and concise manner.
 
It would be helpful if the SPM is literate in Java / J2EE technology development, as well as in market–leading products which implement the J2EE specification, such as IBM WebSphere Application Server or BEA WebLogic Application Server.
 
When assigned to a Cúram implementation project, the Senior Project Manager will report to the regional Vice President as well as representing Cúram in Project Governance structures.

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of projects, work packages and professional services to Systems Integration partners and / or clients, utilizing mixed teams composed of Cúram Global Services teams, other Cúram in-house teams (such as Product Development) and partner System Integration and Client staff, ensuring delivery to quality, cost, time and scope;
  • Maximise revenues and margins to Cúram Global Services whilst maintaining client and integration partner satisfaction;
  • Design the global services scope and approach to each delivery project including designing deployment and delivery methodologies;
  • Creating and maintain detailed plans, schedules, budgets, resource structures, resource allocations and assignments, managing dependencies, assumptions, issues and risks;
  • Identify and manage change to project scope, requirements, budget, timescales;
  • Report progress honestly and accurately to project governance structure and to Cúram reporting lines;
  • Provide leadership to project teams and manage, motivate, coach and appraise individual project resources to maximise their performance and career development;
  • Support the development of a Cúram Project Management approach to integrate with current Cúram best practice including Cúram Implementation Guidelines (CIG);
  • To represent the interests of Cúram Software at all times in a professional and courteous manner and conduct themselves to the highest standards of professional behaviour;
  • To establish and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees, Partners and Customers, and to promote Cúram Software’s technical credibility as a capable and trusted partner;
  • To uphold the same professional standards and work ethic expected of all our Consultancy staff and to lead by example across the team.
  • Measure and ensure stakeholder satisfaction through regular communication and on time and budget high quality delivery
  • Production of scope statements, contractual documents, high-level and detailed project plans for all aspects of the project
  • Identify and manage change effectively;
  • Ownership and management of high-level and detailed effort estimates which are relevant, current and accurate;
  • Production of risk management plans;
  • On going capture of project productivity metrics across the team; comparison to original estimates;
  • Reporting progress-to-plan across the team to a variety of audiences;
  • Ensure best-practice is being effectively implemented across the project by implementing appropriate management and quality assurance checks;
  • Contribute to the development of our project management best-practice, through project case studies, lessons-learned;
  • Ensuring the team integrates effectively and accurately with key project processes such as time recording, issue management, change management and so on;
  • Provide senior leadership, direction and guidance to staff members, sub-contractors, customers and, where relevant, Systems Integration partners;
  • Resolving conflict situations within the team;
  • Contribute to the reviews of staff members on the project;
  • To provide input and feedback to the Global Services management team on enhancements, quality issues and any other relevant information regarding product performance, as well as feedback on project processes, progress, lessons learned and issues for resolution.
 

Skills and Attributes

  • Prior experience managing multi-£m business change and system integration projects;
  • Experience of scope management, stakeholder management, business process analysis and redesign, organisational change, business case and benefits management, package and custom development lifecycles, infrastructure deployment, data migration and cutover;
  • Ability to operate effectively at project board level and with senior client and integration partner staff, reporting progress, managing dependencies and resolving issues;
  • Ability to deliver client satisfaction and to seek opportunities to extend / sell on services;
  • Experience of managing, motivating, developing / coaching and appraising resources assigned to the project;
  • Experience of influencing and providing support, advice and liaison with System Integration partners;
  • Experience of delivery in a Government project environment, preferably within Social Security;
  • Experience of working in Systems Integrator or Software Services company desirable;
  • Experience of delivery using offshore teams is desirable.
