Technical Project Manager - GS
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for the successful delivery of all technical aspects of a Cúram implementation project. The TPM is a key member of the management team on a Cúram implementation project, working closely with project manager, senior Cúram Business Consultants, senior Cúram Technical Consultants as well as key project stakeholders, executives and leaders from the customer, Cúram Software, and where applicable, a Systems Integration partner.
The role provides:
- Management responsibility and ownership of all technical components of the project lifecycle, and their delivery to agreed scope, function, budget and time.
- Leadership and people management of the project team and matrix based organization.

Responsibilities:
- Ownership and management of high-level technical planning including technical scope definition, management of non-functional / technical requirements, effort estimation, technical risk management plan, technical resource planning and skills required, high level scheduling / technical project plan, technical team planning including proposed structure and mobilization plan.
- Ownership and verification of the overall technical solution architecture and its realization through the development process.
- Leadership and management of the team on the project, providing the focal point for the technical team, keeping motivation, productivity and focus strong within the team. The TPM will be responsible for detailed estimation, work management and progress-to-plan reporting on technical team activities. Typically the technical team will comprise two distinct sub-teams: the development organization (architects & developers), as well as the infrastructure team (DBAs, system administrators, build environment, Source Control Management and so on). The TPM will lead and manage one or both teams, depending on specific project requirements.
- Single-point-of-contact for all non-technical project team members in terms the technical aspects of the project.
- Ownership and responsibility for the implementation of Cúram Software technical best practice processes, artifacts and tooling, including ensuring that inputs to the development process are fit for purpose and complete.
- Technical progress management and reporting to the project manager and key stakeholders from the customer, Systems Integration partner (where relevant) and Cúram Software.
- As needs arise on projects, or in the context of specific assignment, be flexible and ready to offer deeper technical contribution to the overall technical project effort, appropriate with the TPM's technical experience and skills. Examples of areas in which TPM project contribution may be expected to occur are: enterprise architecture, Cúram architecture and design, infrastructure architecture, design and configuration, technical research / proof-of-concepts, systems integration (application & infrastructure), deployment sizing & capacity planning, performance testing & tuning, database configuration, architecture & design reviews, documentation of non-functional requirements and specifications, technical upgrade planning.
- Represent the interests of Cúram Software at all times in a professional and courteous manner and conduct themselves to the highest standards of professional behavior.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees, Partners and Customers, and to promote Cúram Software's technical credibility as a capable and trusted partner.
- Uphold the same professional standards and work ethic expected of all our Consultancy staff and to lead by example, especially with the technical team.
- Production of high-level and detailed project plans for the technical aspects of the project.
- Ownership and management of high-level and detailed technical effort estimates which are relevant, current and accurate.
- Production of the technical risk management plan.
- Ongoing capture of development productivity metrics across the technical team; comparison to original estimates.
- Reporting progress-to-plan across the technical team.
- Ensure technical best-practice is being effectively implemented across the project by implementing appropriate management and quality assurance checks.
- Contribute to the development of our project management best-practice, through project case studies, lessons-learned.
- Ensuring the technical team integrates effectively and accurately with key project processes such as time recording, issue management, change management and so on.
- Provide senior leadership, direction and guidance to technical staff members, sub-contractors, customers and, where relevant, Systems Integration partners.
- Resolving conflict situations within the team.
- Contribute to the reviews of staff members on the project.
- To provide input and feedback to the Global Services management team on enhancements, quality issues and any other relevant information regarding product performance, as well as feedback on project processes, progress, lessons learned and issues for resolution
Skills and Attributes
- A TPM will have demonstrated experience and capability in technical project leadership, planning, management and delivery in the context of modern software development, ideally with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software implementations. They will have a deep, practical knowledge of the entire Systems Development Lifecycle, gained through experience on software development and implementation projects.
- They will be versatile and flexible: the work of technical consultancy group is very much hands-on. An effective TPM will be able to contribute to - and participate in - deeper technical aspects of the project, where such needs arise. This capability is important, since it keeps the TPM close to the core work of the technical team, helping promote currency, relevance and understanding in technical decision making. It is also a market differentiator for us, wherein technical management is sometimes seen as an overhead.
- They will possess excellent communication, problem resolution and inter-personal skills as well as a proven track record in customer focus and relationship management based on trust and delivery to plan. The TPM will be able to relate to the diversity of project stakeholders and team members, from the Executive level to the junior developer level. They will have a strong delivery focus and a proven ability to work practically and effectively within a large project team to make the customer successful in their implementation of Cúram.
- In addition to being seasoned technical managers, the TPM will have sound, broad knowledge of modern, large-scale, web-based software architectures, relational database design, deployment architectures, enterprise architecture topics (such as security, enterprise application integration and systems management) as well as application performance. They will be able to naturally understand the work of the technical team and communicate the issues, progress and outputs of the team in a clear and concise manner.
- The TPM should also be literate in Java / J2EE technologies, as well as in market-leading products which implement the J2EE specification, such as IBM WebSphere Application Server or BEA WebLogic Application Server. They should also be literate in leading relational database management products such as Oracle or IBM DB2.
Experience
- 10-14 years of IT industry work experience. Preference will be given to candidates from product companies.
